Looking Ahead

December 26, 2023

The ego and the soul frequently have two different reasons for looking ahead. The ego's strategy is ego-planning, the fixation associated with type Seven. However, all ego types have seven energy. And because of that, our ego plans for things that will satisfy our desires and quell our fears. Bottom line: the ego has a preconception of how it wants life to go, so it plans to make that happen.

Ego planning is not to be labeled as "bad." We must plan to celebrate our joys. We must also plan cautiously regarding things that would harm us unless we are prepared.

However, the ego, disconnected from the soul, believes its plans should come true. It thinks it not only deserves the things it plans but relies on these plans. When its plans go awry, the ego, not tethered to the soul, is disappointed, self-pitying, whiny, angry, resentful, vengeful, or even murderous!

The soul lives in the moment and adapts to reality now. It looks forward to all that will increase its capacity to love and to be loved. When the ego has relinquished control to the soul, together, they make plans, but both know that plans can be extinguished, changed, or decimated at any given time. Therefore, when plans are dashed upon the rocks, instead of self-pity, resentment, and vengeance, we turn to the spiritual practice that helps us accept reality with poise and hope.

Inquiry: What plans do you have that are your sacred cow? If they were demolished, how would your soul and ego work together?

Dear God,

It is terribly hard to give up all I plan, knowing it may not be. Only my soul helps me see beyond my wants to a reality beyond my comprehension. Strengthen my soul, dear God, so I have peace with your story rather than demand my ego's way. Amen
