Transformation
December 18, 2023
The last Daily Reflection focused on transformation from the inside out. But this kind of transformation is not simply gutting our previous selves.
Transformation of our entire being requires dismantling and replacing our ego structure with another. The ego structure saves us from its fears and attains its desires. Our ego influences our decisions, thoughts, feelings, and behavior. It is an expert because it’s had decades of practice. It anticipates the future according to its perceptions and preoccupies us with its needs.
The new ego structure is profoundly different from the first. Its principal function is to support and enhance the soul and to move us through the world. By dismantling the first ego structure, we see the unobscured soul. Then we experience the soul just as we did when we were a soul child. This is quite blissful, but the soul requires a structure by which to navigate a world full of challenges.
Therefore, the new ego has no preconceived story of how life should go. It has relinquished to the story of God, which no person owns or controls. The transformed ego understands this truth. Therefore, it moves us through the practical world while supporting the soul’s intentions. The soul kneels before the soul. Our life then becomes that which we discern through our spiritual practice.
Inquiry: Where would you guess you are in the dismantling process?
Dear God,
I am still dismantling it. But I have a glimpse of my soul, and thanks to your love, I experience more of it every day. Amen.
