Transformation

December 17, 2023

Spiritual transformation is not only a change in our outward expression but a total change from the inside out.

I like to watch TV and YouTube presentations about fixing up and flipping houses. Decorators magically transform houses from dowdy, outdated dwellings to sparking, trendy living spaces. But some of these TV shows present house restorations that are more than a face lift. They show transformation, not only in interior decoration but in basic construction.

From the bones on out, total house transformations begin at the foundation, studs, and plumbing. Then there’s work on the outer walls, eves, and roof. Home interior is the last thing to be done. A transformed home may have many original features, but its durability, functionality, and aesthetics are vastly improved. It is virtually a new creation.

In President Harry Truman’s administration, a dilapidated White House was given a total transformation from 1948-1952. Its insides were dissembled, the interior was removed, and an entirely new infrastructure was constructed.

The White House during its transformation

Spiritual transformation is much the same. We are in restoration our entire lives. Imagine a TV or YouTube show that fast-forwards your and my lives and condenses our spiritual transformation into one hour. The show would play video clips of all our transformative experiences from birth to now. It would be an amazing and profound piece of work. We would see how spiritual changes worked in our foundations all the way to our rafters. Also, we would see how true changes in outer presentation (decoration) result from inner changes.

Spiritual transformation begins in our heart and radiates from there, filling every cell of our being with new life, feelings, perceptions, senses, and thoughts.

Inquiry: How do you imagine you’d experience a TV show chronicling your life’s spiritual transformation?

Dear God,

I see my YouTube fixer-upper right now. It is a story of how you never left me, even in the worst times. Your presence transforms me. I am infinitely grateful. Amen
