Transformation

I remember how excited I was one Christmas, to find my electric train under the tree. My father taught me how to handle the transformer, a black electric box that controlled the train’s speed. The large dial on the transformer regulated the train’s speed. Nothing would happen without the electricity being transformed into a charge in the tracks.

The key to all transformation is energy. In spiritual transformation, we are transformed from one state of consciousness to a higher state by increasing our spiritual energy. The train’s all-essential transformer is like the transformer in our being.

Hand on the transformer

Our spiritual transformer is our heart. The heart not only pumps blood, but it also conducts our deepest emotions. We store many of our spiritual feelings in our hearts. All we “take to heart” is kept there. But in the spiritual life, our hearts transform spiritual energy and change our emotional response. If we intentionally place our negative emotions in our heart and if our soul embraces our hearts, negative emotions are transformed.

Miraculously, our hatred, envy, resentment, anger, and all matters of the heart change by taking them out of our ego mind and placing them in our souls’ hearts. The heart, when coherent with our soul, is a transformer. But the heart acting under the ego is trapped in egocentricity; in that state, the energy does not transform our negative emotions.

Inquiry: What negative emotion would I like to transform right now?

Dear God,

I place my negative feelings in my heart, not to hold them there, but that my soul may transform them through your power. Amen.
