Transformation
December 14, 2023
You are invited to this week’s series of Daily Reflections on Transformation.
Transformation comes from its Latin roots, which means “change of form.” Many of us use the word transformation to mean growth in our spiritual life, as a seedling grows into a tree.
Since birth, we have changed in body, mind, and heart. We grew from the seed planted in us at our making, but much more contributes to our transformation. The crucible of life melds us into the person who awakened this morning. And that person is different from the person who awakened last year at this time.
We have a question to ask about our transformation. Has our spirit grown in heart and mind, and have we become more conscious that our body is a temple for the sacred? This is the time of year when many look at spiritual growth very seriously. We remember the delight of the holidays in childhood and re-live the wonder and magic of life. We realize the profound changes we have made and how much our faith has helped us make those changes. Now, we want to recapture that essence. For many, this desire for self-remembering invites us into the spirit of Christmas.
Christmas puts us in contact with our childhood and the childhoods of others, and it invites us to transform into our own essence. For those on the Christian path, we remember the words of Christ: “Unless you turn and become a little child, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.” Our rabbi gave us the path of transformation.
Inquiry: How are you transforming?
Dear God,
Grow me into the person I must be, so I may express the soul you created. Amen
