Love at First Sight

November 17, 2023

Sometimes, we are attracted to or even fall in love with people, situations and things that are not as they seem. In these instances, our ego is drawn to the appearance of a person, situation or thing. Remember, the ego’s perceptions are colored by its story, desires and fears.

So, because the ego believes its perceptions, it tends to see people and situations accordingly and, therefore, qualities can be attributed that are not accurate. In the psychology world, the phenomenon of false attribution is called projection. If we do not fall victims of our own projections, we eventually see the person on more profound levels of our mind, body and heart.

To know a person on the deepest level requires all three centers of intelligence working together under the leadership of the soul. Our minds are more discerning when connected to the soul. Our hearts are more emotionally on target when connected to our souls, and our bodies are more coherent with the truth when we are connected to our souls.

In being connected to our essence, we develop mental intuition, heart-felt emotional intelligence and gut-level feelings that are much more accurate than our ego’s assessments. And when all three of our centers are connected to the soul, we have a better chance of seeing reality.

If we fall in love at first sight, and that love turns out to be real, chances are that our soul was deeply involved from the beginning. If that love is not real, the soul finds a way to let us know.

Our heart, mind and body grow in coherence through our spiritual practices.

Inquiry: Who does your soul love? How does your body tell you? How does your heart let you know? How does your mind inform you?

Dear God,

Grant that harmony comes through us and into your world. Amen.
