Knowing The Inner Self

The Self-Knowing Pie
Another slice of the pie of Self-Knowing is readiness for change. Many things change when we penetrate our ego and enter our most authentic nature. On this journey, we are not as enchanted with the ego ... its fears, attributes, deficiencies and desires because we discovered that our soul’s enjoyment, wonders, struggles, curiosities and ecstasies are far more meaningful and impactful. Therefore, we leave the activities and people who used to reinforce only our personality. Now we are drawn to people and activities that satisfy our soul’s desires. We replace our fixation on superficial psychological material with the substance of the soul. Instead of making more “me” and enlarging “me’s” psychological material and story, we explore the life of the soul and its Holy Purpose.
By being willing to change, we transform from living only in our personality to being in the state of soul, our soulality. Here we find ourselves less interested in self-promotion and interested instead in promoting what is meaningful to us. The most significant things to our soul are derived from our soul’s purpose. Everything else, including our personality and egoic interests, are reprioritized according to how they support the soul’s purpose. We do not lose our personalities or ego; they are merely transformed.
In the shift from living only in the personality to residing in our soulaity, the things that bring us joy change. In soulality, we are in touch with what makes them the most happy. Many find that some humor we once enjoyed no longer brings us joy. We may discover that always being with others is no longer joyful and that joy comes by having a balance between alone time and time with others. In ego, we may have helped others because it was right. But in soulality, we have deep joy in helping those we know from our depths are ours to help. This type of help is not obligatory but a joyful act from our soul. Many who make the shift feel that oneness with God experienced in meditation is much more joyful than jumping from one exciting project, relationship or trip to another. And others shift from denial of reality to the settled joys of reflection on reality and creative pursuits.
