Knowing The Inner Self

Knowing The Inner Self

Our eighth piece of the “Pie of Self-Knowing" is discernment through self-mindfulness. Being in tune with the divine flow includes our sensing the variables that change us. We can change from moment to moment because of incidental intrusions, but we can also shift in big ways.

Some of the variables that change us on a dime are health, relationships, locality, resources, worries and the release of worries. Also weather and the circumstances of people we know and love affect us. Other contributing factors include joyful or disturbing political, social and cultural news. At any given minute, our entire aura and inner sense of self can change. It may take only one remark around the dinner table or at work for our mood or attitude to shift.

Self-mindfulness is like knowing when our automobile tires are out of alignment. We are familiar with the sounds and vibrations and we know when the ride has been affected. Self-mindfulness is being sensitive to our strengths as well as vulnerabilities. It is being aware of our avoidances, anti-self actions, lies, traps and passions as well as our Virtues, Holy ideas, Idealized Aspects and Essential Aspects. Self-mindfulness is being aware of what makes our ride bumpy or smooth.

If our ego triggers disequilibrium and if we are sensitive to the girations and deviations, we can restore balance by dropping into our heart. There, our heart tells us if our ego is ruling or if our soul is in charge. But if we forget to take its temperature, the ego can run roughshod over us. We are so busy attending to its illusions, fears and desires that we forget our soul and heart. In order to be sensitive to ourselves, we must know what makes us tick and also what stops our clock. Being in tune with ourselves in the moment is our central base for discerning reality and ourselves.

Inquiry: Do you know your small changes in mood and states of consciousness?

Dear God,

I pray that we are in tune with ourselves, not only as individuals but as families, groups, communities, churches, governments and nations. Amen.
