Living in Essence

March 13, 2024

We remember our fullness, freedom, and happiness when we think of ourselves as soul children when we lived in our essence. Of course, the ego eventually dominated us by the end of childhood, yet we kept our essence. Each person’s essence is a combination of many soul qualities referred to as essential qualities. But all essences have the same skeletal structure upon which these qualities flesh out.

The bones of our soul are structures of true being, structures of essence.

One of the bones of essence is presence, being fully alive to the world while allowing the world to infuse us with its life. This is a reciprocal relationship. In presence, we are, in essence, giving and receiving everything in the present moment. Things arise from that moment that continually inform, inspire, illuminate, guide, and affirm us.

Another bone is spaciousness, which is the absence of inner clutter. Essence fills itself with its purpose and intentions. It fills us with the divine life force.

Another is the constant movement of things as the life force and environment continuously undergo alchemical changes as they ebb, flow, grow, and diminish.

Groundedness is a principle bone of true being. Our soul is stable in all transitions, difficulties, and positive changes when rooted in the earth. The earth is the “prima materia” from which all creation sprang. Our roots deepen in our birthplace, the ground of our being in which we are supported and held.

Another bone of essence is the harmonious relationship with all creation. We align with reality and find our place in every now. We live in spiritual poise, not in apprehension.

Another bone of essence is soul-centricity. As opposed to ego-centricity, the soul-centric essence is not made of egoic thoughts or intentions. Essence communicates with the world and moves in it around its spiritual purpose, not the ego’s desired outcomes.

Oneness with the Divine is another bone of essence. When we achieve this, it is like the re-union of parent and child after separation.

Inquiry: How many of these bones are you aware of in your own being?

Dear God,

I pray not to be a slave of my ego’s wishes but to live in the bones of essence into which you breathed my life.

Amen.
