Living in Essence

It is nice to know about our ego type’s personality, but it is not who we are. We are actually made of pure being, the profound self we were born as. This is our essence, and the real Enneagram is about becoming conscious of and living from our essence instead of our ego type.

The Enneagram’s sacred wisdom is much more than improving our personalities by walking the road to our antidote. The original Enneagram is about knowing and re-embodying our essence. Our essence is closely associated with one of the nine fundamental energies that underpin the universe.

So, our particular essence is found at one of the following points: Fours' essence is found at Point One: Sacred Righteousness. Eights’ essence is at Point Two: Sacred Compassionate Benevolence. Nines' essence is at Point Three: Sacred Action. Twos' essence is at Point Four: Sacred Creativity. Sevens' essence is found at Point Five: Sacred Wisdom. Threes' essence is at Point Six: Sacred Kinship. Ones' essence is at Point Seven: Sacred Joy. Fives' essence is at Point Eight: Sacred Power, and Sixes’ essence is at Point Nine: Sacred Loving Peace. These are not personality antidotes; these are our true selves.

So, how will the number at the end of the arrow pointing to my ego type return me to my essence? The short answer is that when I know the soul qualities found at that point, I remember them as long-lost treasures. Yes, underneath the characteristics of my personality are deeper qualities of my being.

Knowing and re-embodying our essence cannot be done by typing our personality and putting us into personality-type boxes. The original Enneagram of the Soul, not the Enneagram of Personality, is the original way to re-embody the aspect of God that we were born to express but that our personality covered over.

Inquiry: How would your life be different if you were to live from the qualities of your soul?

Dear God,

The qualities you made in us at our beginning are pure beyond belief. I pray to know in my heart and soul why we must lose them only to return to them.
