Connection
January 3, 2024
There are times when I have trouble feeling my connection to the Divine. Something heavy worries me, an outlook seems bleak, or an uncertainty looms that disconnects me from the God within. It's a hopelessness that seems to smother me.
Recently, I felt such a disconnect while driving home from another city. The worry increased all day; then, with nightfall, it closed in on me.
I was on empty, so I pulled into a Love's gas station. While at the pump, the dark pessimism rapidly took over. I only wanted to retreat home as fast as possible and into my thoughts. The six egos are especially famous for going into our thoughts. We think we can solve our problems and restore our sense of peace by thinking out the correct answer. But the ego cannot accomplish the matters of the soul.
Before the feelings took me inward and downward, I said a prayer out loud at the pump.
Dear God, in your mercy, please save me from these thoughts. Help me overcome this darkness. Amen
After the prayer, I immediately raised my eyes and looked past the gas pump to see only one thing in the dark night: a large yellow electric sign with the following words, "DO NOT ENTER." The sign was larger than life, warning drivers not to enter a particular roadway.
These words were my answer: Do not enter the road my ego was taking me down. Only my soul could refuse to enter. The words instructed my soul to stay in soul because this was my only way through the darkness.
Inquiry: What do you do when your ego takes you down a road that seems the way but is not the way?
Dear God,
For the big bright yellow sign, I am so grateful. It kept me connected. Amen
