Divine Order Part 6
One of the most significant pieces of evidence of divine order is witnessing it in individuals we meet and know. The person’s life may not always be successful. It may have extremes of ups and downs. They are not always outwardly happy, and everyone may not always like them. But the person who strives to live in divine order is first and foremost grounded and driven by a higher cause than their ego alone.
Of course, we meet such people every day who express these dimensions to a greater or lesser extent. Recently, I met a very special one whose life teaches me many things. This person was not very warm and fuzzy when I met them. In fact, you may say they were “all business.” They were nice yet preoccupied with the tasks at hand. When we met, I took note of the fact they looked me right in the eyes. However, my initial impressions were only of their personality characteristics. And the more I was around them, it was impossible not to feel their deep commitment to their life’s purpose. This was their soul and was much more their real self than any of their superficial personality characteristics.
Then, when I learned (not from them) of the vast array of things great and small they had built, nurtured, and accomplished for others, it was obvious that their life force and motivations are aligned with the Divine. I was then able to see how their soul was at work and realized their look into my eyes was from their depths.
After getting to know the person, I was struck by their spiritual journey, which included much pain. They devoted much of their life to healing others’ suffering and spent many years in spiritual practices that processed that pain to make them the authentic person they are today.
One day, I hope to speak with this dear soul more deeply, to ask more about their journey and their close walk with the Creator. Soul sharing like that is for me, a sacrament.
Divine order doesn’t have to be for prescribed periods or for time-limited events. It can be manifested in one’s spirit, for a lifetime.
Spiritual practice: Scan your “directory” to recall someone you may know whose life seems to be in divine order. Consider talking with them to learn how God has guided them. What do you learn?
Self-inquiry: What are the characteristics of your life when you know you are in divine order?
Dear God,
I pray to see, notice, and learn from the divine order I witness in those dear souls around me. Their lives are my teachers. Amen
