Curiosity

October 9, 2023

The ego writes a story of how life should go, so it tends to collect information to support its storyline. Therefore, we are curious about things that will confirm our ego’s story and its hunches. On the whole, curiosity is a wonderful attribute that opens up worlds we’d never have known. But sometimes, curiosity crosses the line becoming nosey, prying or snoopy.

To determine if our curiosity has crossed the line into snoopiness, before we inquire of someone, we ask ourselves, “What’s my motive?” If our intentions are pure, the person we are speaking with will sense it. But if our ego is in control and the motives are to “build a case” that supports our ego’s suppositions, then the person can sense this too.

What do we do when someone pries into our lives? We have the following inquiry: “What are the reasons why I will not set a boundary with this person?”

Dear God,

Help me inquire without making anyone uncomfortable, and please give me the honest motive of wanting to know about your world and its wonder, whatever it unfolds. Amen.
