Connection

Welcome to this series of Daily Reflections on Connection

When on the cell phone and our call is dropped, our connection is lost. When our toaster doesn't work, there's no electrical connection. There's no connection if I meet someone and can't relate to them. If part of me scares or disgusts me, I am probably disconnected from it. If I am unaware of my spiritual capacities, I am not connected to them. If my prayers bounce back to me, I may be disconnected from the Divine.

For a being to be fully alive, energy must flow, which requires a connection to the Source. The ego imprisons us if we're not connected to our higher self. If disconnected from our hearts, we're out of touch with our emotions. We are confused if we are not in sync with our mental processes. We're not grounded if we are out of touch with our bodies.

The process of connection is vital to wholeness and integration. We would not need the concept of connection if it were not for the reality of separation. Wholeness is the bringing together of things scattered, disunited, or separated from one another.

In his book The Universal Christ, Father Richard Rohr explains the most significant separation is between God and humankind. The Christ, who is divine and human, is the essential reconnection. After restoring our spiritual place, we can begin the lifelong process of reconnecting to the lost parts of ourselves, to others, to the universe, and, of course, to our Source.

The Institute for Conscious Being is only one of many churches, temples, mosques, and other spiritual communities that provide pathways for reconnection. Each person reconnects in their own way, yet a community of faith provides the support and holy container for growth and reconnection.

Inquiry: From what or whom do you feel disconnected?

Dear God,

When disconnected, I feel lonely, untethered, and estranged. The energy does not flow through me. I pray for a deeper connection with you. I pray for intimacy with you. I pray for the continuous restoration of my soul. Amen
