Transformation

December 21, 2023

Two dear friends of ours are always looking ahead. This couple are the consummate journeyers who’ve traveled to all seven continents, including Antarctica. When asked about their adventures, they usually give the highlights of their most recent journey. Then they remind us that the cultures and landscapes of all countries have their own flavors, but people everywhere are more alike than different. They say that travel is work and that life is much better when you have a journey to look forward to.

Anticipating things that fill our hearts and souls is a perk of life. Without living in expectation, life would be a long line of events without punctuation. Looking forward to things stokes the fire in our bellies and gives us hope for continued growth. Looking ahead to our good helps heal our losses, doubts, and pain.

We could look forward to a wedding, graduation, birth, or marriage. But we could also look forward to a new friendship, life path, or a family reunion. Some things that we look forward to may excite our egos, but the deepest anticipations of all are those things that grow our souls.

Inquiry: What are you looking forward to and why?

Dear God,

I am so grateful for hope and anticipation of your goodness, for they lift up my eyes and heal me. Amen.
