Abundance

November 8, 2023

So many of us fear scarcity which is, of course, the opposite of abundance. At times, there is real scarcity. For example, in the American Great Depression of the 1930s, jobs, food, clothing and everything money could buy were scarce. Money itself was scarce. The entire world was in a global financial crisis.

Most of us have experienced scarcity in one way or another. During these times, we may think we will never have what we are deprived of. But The Law of Abundance reassures us that there is an inevitable upturn after every downturn. This is the natural rhythm of things.

There is another crucial aspect of The Law of Abundance: During times of scarcity, having a mindset of abundance hastens the appearance of what we need. How is this so? When our minds are free of being focused on what we do not have, we are free to think positively and creatively. We are free to expect, visualize and to anticipate abundance.

Another aspect of abundance is gratitude. Being grateful for what we have affirms that we indeed receive many gifts. Focused on scarcity, we forget about what we do have, and focus on what we do not have.

When Lark and I first married, we considered ourselves poor. I was a graduate student, and Lark was a teacher. We shopped wisely and denied ourselves many luxuries. Focused on our deprivation, I tried to save money in any way I could. I remember now, with embarrassment, that one day at the grocery store, I convinced Lark to put the expensive toilet tissue back on the shelf and get a less expensive one.

I was not familiar with the Law of Abundance. We had been raised in a fear-based mentality of scarcity. But when we learned about the Law of Abundance, things began to change because our mindsets changed.

The soul is linked to the Divine and all the abundance the Divine naturally sends our way. But the ego, who thinks it is in control, tries to manage getting what we need and want in its own ways.

Inquiry: Are you presently in a mentality of scarcity or abundance?

Dear God,

For your many treasures that come so abundantly, I am so grateful. Amen.
