Attunement

Being attuned to nature beckons our souls. For example, the sunset soothes, delights and inspires us. But when we look deeper into that sunset, or into anything in nature, it may offer us a teaching.

For example, Brad and Leah were watching the sunset on the coast. The clouds nearest the sun were a luminous, iridescent orange, while the less vivid clouds further away drifted and broke apart.

The young couple had been through a tough time. They had disconnected from the spiritual lives they once shared and, like the clouds, drifted apart. Brad and Leah immediately saw the teaching in the sunset: “In being near the Source of Love, our spirits are brilliant and whole. In being away from the Source, our love fades and breaks apart.” There it was, right before their eyes; the Divine supplied just the teaching on which their souls could feast.

Everything potentially contains a tailor-made teaching that speaks directly to our situation. The ego has to calm down for the teachings to come to us. The ego is so busy imposing its own interpretation on what it experiences that it is impossible for something to come to us as it really is. But when the ego is subsumed by the soul, it surrenders to the unencumbered and unobscured arisings in each moment.

Inquiry: If you look outside and attune yourself to the scene before you, can you see your message?
