Occasionally, I think about growing up in the Deep South with my brother Trevor, who is two and a half years younger than me. Among the memories are our trips to the local grocery store. Our mother allowed us a candy bar, or a moon pie and a soft drink. When he was just three or four, my little brother routinely asked me to unwrap his candy bar or moon pie. His tiny fingers had not yet mastered the fine motor coordination it took to unwrap a candy bar. Also, I recall Trevor’s grabbing my hand when we crossed the street.

Things are different now. As adults, though I still am the big brother, I call upon my little brother to "unwrap" problems I may have. Also, he often holds my hand when I need to be looked after.

Inquiry: What is in this story for you?

Dear God,

For your cycle of life, I am so grateful. As I grow and become more aware, open my memories to understand more of how you nurture through me and how you nurture me through others.

Amen.
