Take it to your heart. Take any question to your heart if you want a true answer. But the ego’s emotions can take over the heart if the soul isn’t directly involved. When the soul is not involved, and things do not go well, some might say, “I followed my heart but shouldn’t have.” Their mistake was to follow the ego emotions that ruled their heart.

The soul’s answers fill our hearts when our hearts are open. The heart’s and soul’s answers to our dilemmas may not please the ego, but they fit into a larger picture of divine order, which we may eventually understand or never comprehend.

Our heart can take any difficulty or dilemma and the answer will emerge. But the heart must be completely joined with the soul for the divinely ordered answer to appear. This is a spiritual challenge because most questions and dilemmas arise from the tension between our ego and higher self.

The solution emerges from our hearts once we shift from egocentricity to our soul’s perspective. When we combine our soul with our heart, the soul’s emotions arise to answer a question. These answers eclipse the ego’s emotions. The heart then sends the answer to our mind, which transmits it into our thinking structure. It sends its answer to our body, which puts it in our gut.

Amalgamating the heart and soul is a more extensive process. This is the work of our spiritual practices. Once our ego relinquishes its agenda and submits to the soul, we are no longer torn between head and heart. Relinquishment is the key and the most difficult challenge for the ego because it thinks it is all-knowing as a god in its own right.

Inquiry: What does your heart in submission to your soul tell you about your decision?
