Rejuvenation Part 5

At times, we experience a vague heaviness, an unsettled feeling. Sometimes, it's like mind fog or an almost imperceptible preoccupation. It may be a nagging thought; it may feel like a dark cloud hanging over us… We know we are not ourselves, but we can't put our fingers on the reasons for it.

Periods of heaviness are quite normal. Our popular culture trains us to disperse these lingering clouds by denying them, going shopping, binging, or other diversions. Often, our hobbies and other talents help. Sometimes, these and other distractions do the trick, and we emerge in a different mindset. However, the heaviness is sure to return.

What is the mysterious and subtle weight that can lessen our life force? Simply put, all the daily impressions and complications accumulate in our psyche. These impressions are positive as well as negative, yet for whatever reason, they accumulate. The day's residue stays with us even if we are unaware. Layer upon layer, it thickens the veil between our ego and soul. Whether we feel the clutter or not, it is there.

Many of us treat the heaviness with meditation, walking the labyrinth, journaling, Lectio Divina, embodiment practices, centering prayer, yoga, writing or reading, and a whole host of practices. But another spiritual method goes directly to the clutter and cleans it out. It is simply called "cleaning." Those who practice cleaning do it whether or not they consciously feel the build-up. It's like when we clean our house regularly, whether we see the dirt or not.

I had the good fortune to have been taught meditation practices by Daaji, the Spiritual Leader of the global Heartfulness movement. Heartfulness meditation, including its cleaning method, is unique. It cleans out the daily, even hourly, accumulated residue. Easily learned and done, it is a great rejuvenator.

Spiritual practice: Look at the free Heartfulness App Cleaning Method and other meditative practices. Try the meditation and its cleaning method. Did it rejuvenate you or not?

Self inquiry: How did you feel when the cleaning method was finished?

Dear God, I give you thanks and praise for all the ways to restore our souls. Amen
