Rejuvenation Part 3

Depletion is a fact of life. We must eat to restore our lost energy; we must water our plants, or they will die. We must fill our car with fuel or recharge it. The Creator sets things up so that energy is continuously being restored. Rain comes down; the sun shines, all life dies and is recycled into the earth to give more life. And then there is you and me. What do we do to restore our bodies, minds, and hearts? What happens when we do not?

When I am exhausted and have no more to give, I get cranky, if not downright angry. My ego will not listen to my soul, which says to take time out. I power through it and, as a result, spiral down into negativity. If I could be more aware when I am running low on “fuel,” I would catch the depletion before exhaustion and anger set in.

For me, the most profound illustration of depletion is in the story recounted in Luke 8: 43-48, KJV.

43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,

44 Came behind him and touched the border of his garment, and immediately, her issue of blood stanched.

45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.

47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.

48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

Interestingly, Jesus was aware of the loss of virtue within him. He was aware that someone took it. This means that even Jesus was not always totally “charged”.  I can only imagine what Jesus did to restore his power. Maybe he recharged in meditation, prayer, by coming aside, and by being with his loved ones.

Instead of feeling guilty or angry when out of gas, I can become conscious of my state and go to my soul point. Everyone’s soul point reminds them that the healthiest and happiest life is what happens when in constant contact with the Divine.

Spiritual practice: Picture the methods that you imagine Jesus used to regain the virtue he lost. Do some of those methods for yourself, even if in your imagination.

Self inquiry: How do you interpret your results of the spiritual practice above?

Dear God,

I ask for your transformative power to make me more aware of my depletions. And God, bring me into the light of self-awareness to save myself and others from the negativity I cause in depletion. Amen
