Unforgettable Things I Have Heard

November 23, 2023

I once heard the well-known preacher, Robert H. Schuyler, say "Possibility-thinking is the long sought-after fountain of youth.”

Schuyler was the developer of the Crystal Cathedral in Pasadena, California whose ideas inspired millions of people. He maintained that ideas themselves are life-giving. If we did not think of possibilities, no one would ask anyone to be their life partner; no one would take the chance to buy their first car or home. No one would try new things. We'd all listen to the nay-sayers, the Debbie and Donald Downers of this world. We'd internalize their voices and become the Idea Police of our own minds. Robert Schuyler’s thoughts on possibilities reflect a truth deep within: that new ideas bring new vistas to our life and, with each new vista, there is anticipation and excitement. These keep us young.

I imagine they flow from you, too. Ideas have a special way of helping us anticipate the future. So many of us do not act on our ideas because of our internalized nay-sayer who says, "That won't work." But when we bring our ideas into reality, we see how powerful our thoughts are to make the ideal a reality.

There is an idea of mine that I will nurture until it comes true: it is the creation of a documentary about the soul child. In the documentary, viewers will experience their own soul child. The vision is that we would reinhabit the innocence and purity of our essence. This one trip into our true nature would guarantee many return journeys there. This journey brings inner and outer peace. I have gone so far as to enlist a conscious filmmaker who created a trailer for this endeavor. Now, I pray it to become a reality.

The more the world falls into horrible conflicts that murder our children and families by the thousands, the more convinced I am that such a film would, at the very least, help stop the madness. I cling to the idea that inner and outer peace is possible by our return to the qualities of our soul. Our soul is full of possibilities. It is our fountain of youth and our fountain of love. Love is the only way to stop the suffering.

Inquiry: Who would support your idea, and who would be its nay-sayer?

Dear God,

I lift up my eyes unto the hills ... Amen.
