Abundance
November 12, 2023
Abundance is generally associated with financial prosperity. For example, a family always has more than enough, or a person receives a windfall just when she loses her job. Then there’s the person who always lands on his feet after a financial setback. Abundance seems to flow to them.
Sometimes, we forget that many other forms of abundance have nothing to do with money. They make our lives richer in non-material ways and, ultimately, they are the most essential forms of our good. Jesus spoke to this concept when he referred to giving us life more abundantly.
“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)
Notice that the rabbi did not promise financial windfalls. Instead, he gives the life force in an overflowing amount. We receive more contentment, peacefulness and true happiness than we would ever have without this wisdom. This means that all the virtues we hold in our hearts increase - abundantly. If we have these essential abundances, we bypass money alone as being our hope.
So how do we receive this wisdom and the life force that comes with it? In the Daily Reflections to follow, we will offer answers to that profound question.
Inquiry: What do you have in abundance?
Dear God,
I am abundantly thankful for the wisdom you have shown me. My ego has its own way of giving me life, but when I apply your wisdom, I see in color, feel the energy in my pores, smell the fragrances of heaven and hear the music of the spheres. I love without hesitation, feel the caress of those who love me and taste the sweetness of your nurturance. I have life and have it more abundantly. Amen.
