The Phenomenal

On our journey into wholeness, we encounter the phenomenal every time we enter a higher stage of consciousness. Everything appears in a different light when we exit one stage to live in the next level. We have all experienced leaving and entering new stages at different maturity levels or when we encounter life-altering shock points.

For example, a twelve-year-old gradually knows things about life that were unknown to her at eleven; a fifty-something comes into consciousness of his mortality more than he’d ever before; a person who experiences a drastic loss comes into a different understanding of the fragility of life, and this understanding informs their life forever more. A person is shocked when a dear friend betrays her, and she is now a more aware person.

When we come to know what we had not known before, this is phenomenal because we are re-wired to see with new eyes, feel with a new heart, think with a new mind, and inhabit a new body. Our spiritual capacities are totally widened and deepened.

Fortunately, we do not have to wait for a developmental stage or a shock point to enter a new consciousness stage.

We can experience the phenomenal in the quiet of our own sacred space; we can draw close to the Divine and request a phenomenal transformation, intervention, realization, or comfort. Depending on our receptivity, we can open space for transformation by dropping from our minds into our hearts. Once there, we feel the energy of our heart and realize its oneness with everyone on the planet and with the Divine. From our hearts, we ask, prepare, and wait.

For example, if you have a burning concern right now and need relief from its grasp, you can free yourself from suffering by asking God to transform your being. Such a phenomenal happening occurs when we are willing to suspend our egocentric thoughts and fixations. Then and only then can we create space to receive the transformation.

Why only then? Because we have reached the point that we can no longer take the suffering that our lack of consciousness causes. We know we lack something and realize our ego’s way of dealing with it isn’t working. We are not ready to receive the Divine solution as long as we believe in our ego’s strategies.

After we receive what the Divine sends us, even if what we receive is not what we envisioned, we are transformed because we have shifted from ego to heart. Such transformation is phenomenal.

Dear God,

Your power is great, and I have not always been receptive. I have not detached from my own plans and ideas, I have not gone into sacred space, and I have remained a slave to my wishes. Yet in your mercy, you hear my remorse, and you listen to my heart. Then I experience the phenomenal. In gratefulness, Amen
