Judging Books by Their Covers

February 7, 2024

If we do not want to live as only the cover of the book about us, we must discover the soul who lives in our depths. Then we re-embody this soul and all its divine qualities.

How do we re-embody the qualities of our essence? Paradoxically, we re-embody and express them in extreme pain and joy. In these times, we do not operate on our surface selves; instead, we are in direct contact with our depths. The beautiful thing about this is that when we re-embody the qualities of our essence, we are more likely to express them not only in times of extreme pain or joy but every day, all the time.

This is a good reason for us to dive into our depths regularly. Have you ever noticed what many people yell from their gut when something seismic has occurred? They (we) scream, "Oh my God!" Similarly, there are often tears and indescribable inner harmony in episodes of extreme joy. In these profound times, we go right to our depths where our real selves live.

Why are we made better by embracing the depths of our souls? The soul does not judge us as good, bad, or indifferent, as does our unchecked ego. Our soul knows the complete truth of who we are; instead of allowing us to think badly of ourselves, it sees us as a work in progress, and instead of seeing us as perfect, it knows that we are like every other child of God: we are mixtures of advanced insights and undeveloped applications of our highest selves. Whatever our mix, we are totally accepted by the God who created us. And our soul knows this, whereas our unchecked ego is just our "cover".

Inquiry: How often do you find yourself living from your depths?

From my depths, I pray for union with you. Amen
