Judging Books by Their Covers

February 5, 2024

Recently, I was the target of a scam. Even though scammers are criminals who have been around for thousands of years, they continue to manipulate by using our blind spots against us. So, these robbers, in disguise, capitalize on people's emotional and mental vulnerabilities, the largest of which are their ego type's passion, fixations, avoidances, and traps. That means that scam telephone callers and anyone who wants to take advantage of us are adept at using our ego’s biases to steal from us.

The Six Ego's passion is fear, so the scammer's tactic of terrorizing me nearly worked. They called me out of the blue; their urgent, business-like manner and language convinced me they were who they said they were. They told me I was in contempt of court by not appearing as an expert witness for a current trial. Though I knew I had not received the usual subpoena for such an event, the "law enforcement" officials on the phone sounded authentic, especially after they read a bogus subpoena and said that I would be under arrest unless I paid a fine. Being caught by surprise, the passion of fear overtook me.

Eventually, the familiar feeling of fear that my ego had given me for years became so intense that I wondered what I was doing to myself. Finally, I said to my ego, "I know you, and I know what you're up to." Then I took a deep breath, centered myself, and dropped into my heart and soul. My soul saw through the circumstances, but my ego was taken in. I returned to my essence, became present, and quickly ended the nightmare. With irrational fear identified and eliminated, I could see reality and the ridiculous things being told me over the phone. But my ego's suffering was my alarm clock and wake-up call, without which I would have been victimized.

Inquiry: How have you misjudged a book by its cover?

Dear God,

I pray to drop into my soul and remain there as long as possible. Amen
