Making Peace with the Past Part 7
In the Book of Genesis (1:31), after God made everything, it is written, "Then God looked over all he had made and saw that it was very good!"
Though you and I have not created a universe, we have created a life. And that life is our soul's journey. It is a living document. Can you look over your life and say that it is very good?
That is an ominous question because no life is perfect. But take heart: We can say the life we created is good, even if it isn't perfect—even if it didn't go as planned. Why? Because everything in our lives serves the purpose of our soul. Yes, our greatest failures and losses are chances for us to become more conscious. If we handled our setbacks, we learned what we needed to learn,—and if we didn't learn from those setbacks, we hopefully learned from the fact that we didn't learn from them. Then we are better prepared to learn from the next set of similar experiences when they inevitably come around.
Do you see the work of the spirit in and around all you have done and even in what you have left undone? Can you bless your life in all its agonies and celebrations? Blessing our life is an act of self-affirmation. It acknowledges our journey, a journey made only by us.
Spiritual practice: Write a blessing for your life. Can you say, “It is good”?
Self-inquiry: If your life were to be made into a movie, what would you entitle it?
Dear God,
I am so grateful for your presence on this journey. Your presence redeems me. Amen
